23 JE-Affected Kids Missing From Hospital: Pradeep Majhi

**Malkangiri**: At a time when the Odisha Government is drawing flak from all quarters due to deaths of 45 kids due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE), a mosquito-borne viral disease, senior Congress leader Pradeep Majhi on Monday again pushed the Government to the back foot by alleging that around 23 JE-affected children went missing from Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

Majhi, a former MP of Nabarangpur, alleged that 23 kids with JE symptoms were admitted to the DHH, but now these infants are missing as there is no record of discharge.

Majhi alleged that 24 affected children are missing from the hospital.

“There is record of the admission of the children in the hospital, but there is no record of discharge,” added Majhi.

He demanded the missing children should be brought back.

Malkangiri ADMO (Medical) Sashi Bhusan Mahapatra, however, said they don’t have any such report till date.

It may be mentioned that as per Government reports the Japanese Encephalitis has claimed lives of 45 children in Malkangiri district, and one in Koraput, till date.

The Congress leader had also demanded Rs 5 lakh compensation to each of victim’s family and vaccination to all children in the district at the earliest.

On Sunday, BJP leader Surama Padhi in a press meet had claimed that the actual number of deaths due to the disease is much more than the Government reports. She said nearly 75 children have lost their lives due to the deadly disease till date.
