Bhubaneswar: A severe cold wave has gripped Odisha, with 23 cities recording temperatures below 10°C and 38 places below 12°C.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), G Udayagiri is the coldest place, registering a bone-chilling 3°C, followed by Semiliguda (4.1°C), Phulbani (5°C), Rourkela (5.1°C), and Jharsuguda (5.4°C).
Other cities experiencing sub-10°C temperatures include Daringbadi (7°C), Keonjhar (7.6°C), Sundargarh and Bhawanipatna (7.8°C), Angul (8°C), Koraput and Balangir (8.5°C), and Cuttack (9.6°C). Bhubaneswar, the state capital, is shivering at 10.2°C ¹ ² ³.
The Similipal Tiger Reserve and surrounding areas are also experiencing extreme cold, with temperatures dropping to 0°C at Upper Baraha Kamuda (UBK) Area. Other areas in the vicinity include Chahala (2°C), Barehipani (5°C), Gurguria (5°C), Ramatirtha (9°C), Satkosia (9°C), and Kiajhari (11°C).
On the other hand, a low-pressure system formed over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression within the next 24 hours. However, there’s no indication of its impact on Odisha so far.
