Dhenkanal: At least 24 buffaloes were mowed down and two others seriously injured by a speeding train near Joranda Road railway station under Gobindpur outpost limits of Sadar police station in Dhenkanal district today.
According to reports, the animals belonging to one Santosh Swain of Gobindpur village who had bought those by availing loan were run over by Bhubaneswar-Rourkela Inter City Express while those were crossing the railway tracks near Joranda Road railway station at around 4.00 PM.
The herd was returning home after grazing in the nearby forest, reports added. While 24 of the buffaloes died on the spot, the legs of two others have been severed.
At the time of filing this report, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel have reached the spot and are investigating the matter.
