Baripada: At least 24 persons were seriously injured when the pick-up van in which they were travelling had a head-on collision with another pick-up van coming from the opposite direction on the Thakurmunda-Anandapur road near Paturia Sahi under Mahuldiha police limits in Mayurbhanj district today.
According to reports, the ill-fated pick-up van was carrying 35 labourers at the time of the mishap. While 24 of them including the driver were seriously injured, the 11 others sustained minor injuries.
The seriously injured have been admitted to the government hospital at Ghasipura. The 11 with minor injuries have been admitted to the public health centre at Satakosia.
All the persons had gone to Sailang Jhadkhundi village near Ghasipura to work as farm labourers and were returning to Bagdafa village near Satakosia after completing work when the accident took place.
Mahuldiha police seized both the vehicles involved in the accident.
