Bhubaneswar: As many as 26 children have been detected with Tomato Flu or hand foot and mouth disease (HFMD) across Odisha, informed Health director Bijay Mohapatra on Tuesday.
Among the infected kids, 19 are from Bhubaneswar, two from Khordha, three from Puri, and two from Cuttack. All the infected kids are in the 1-9 years age group. They have been asked to remain in isolation for 5-7 days.
The tomato flu or tomato fever is characterised by rashes and blisters that are red in colour and hence the name. Children under five who are affected by this flu have high fever and body ache along with blisters and rashes on the body.
The infected children will also have symptoms of dehydration, stomach pain, diarrhea and nausea, and vomiting.
