Bhubaneswar: Odisha Director General of Police, Yogesh Bahadur Khurania revealed the involvement of Maoists in connection with the loot of explosives from the K. Balang police station in Sundargarh district. Addressing a press conference, DGP Khurania revealed that 3.8 tons of explosives have been seized out of the 5 tons that were looted.
The operation to recover the stolen explosives has been continuing since May 27, and an SIT led by an additional SP is investigating the case. Evidence of Maoist involvement has been found, and two accused have been arrested so far, the DGP added. He stated that the investigation is still underway, and efforts are being made to seize the remaining explosives.
The explosives were recovered from a vehicle near a petrol pump in Rourkela. The DGP emphasized that the SOP was not followed when the explosives were sent, which led to the looting. The incident had created a stir in the state, and the DGP had visited the spot to review the situation.
The investigation is being conducted in collaboration with the NIA team, and the security forces are still conducting a search operation in the Saranda forest. The seized explosives are being seen as a major success against the Maoists, and the police are working to prevent any further incidents.
The case is being compared to the 2009 Champajharan explosives loot incident, and the police are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice. The DGP assured that the investigation will be thorough, and strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
