Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police have arrested three persons including a couple for allegedly duping lakhs of rupees from gullible customers to sell them cars at discounted prices which they had won in a lottery.
The accused have been identified as Sibram Gouda, Akshay Gouda and Akshay’s wife Usharani Barik.
Briefing reporters here, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said that Sibram Gouda, Akshay Gouda and his wife Usharani Barik had planned to cheat people by selling them cars they had won through the lottery.
They had induced people to believe that they had won around 20 cars between 2015 and 2016 by lottery and would sell those at a discounted price. They had shown old pictures and videos to bolster their claim and win the confidence of the potential buyers. After collecting money from several people to provide them with cars, the accused persons absconded.
Police have arrested two accused persons from the Nayapalli area of the city and another from Chhatrapur in Ganjam.
As of date police have identified four bank accounts of the accused persons wherein crores of rupees have been transacted. They have purchased flats, plots and gold at different places.
The DCP said that the police will be getting the accused persons on remand for further interrogation.
