Jeypore: Nearly three months after a house burglary in Borigumma town of Koraput district, police have arrested three accused and recovered ₹2.5 lakh in connection with the case.
The arrests were made following sustained investigation by Borigumma police after the burglary that took place on the night of December 20 last year.
The accused have been identified as Ajay Nayak, Chandan Badhei, and M. Siba, all residents of the Jeypore area.
According to police, the burglary occurred at the residence of Rajeshwari Padhi, located along Nabarangpur Road in Borigumma town under Borigumma police station limits. Taking advantage of the absence of occupants, the miscreants allegedly broke open the lock of the house, entered the premises and ransacked the rooms. They decamped with gold jewellery and cash amounting to around ₹2 lakh, police said.
Following the incident, the homeowner initially lodged complaints with the Superintendent of Police (SP) and the District Collector, seeking swift action to track down the culprits and recover the stolen property.
After months of investigation and efforts to trace the accused, police finally apprehended the trio. During the operation, police recovered ₹2.5 lakh in cash from their possession.
Police have also seized one iron rod, believed to have been used during the break-in, along with a motorcycle allegedly used by the accused in committing the crime.
Sub-Inspector Dronacharya Bagh confirmed the arrests and the recovery of cash during the investigation.
Further inquiry is underway to determine whether the accused were involved in other similar theft incidents in the region.
