Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police on Sunday arrested three men allegedly involved in multiple burglary cases in Ganjam district and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 35 lakh along with cash, silver, and a scooter.
The accused have been identified as Chintu Sethy (28), the prime suspect, Deepak Kumar Pattanaik (33), and Akash Kumar Behera (32), all residents of Berhampur.
According to SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M, the trio was allegedly involved in five theft cases—two registered at Berhampur Town Police Station and three at Nimakhandi Police Station. The police recovered Rs 8.50 lakh in cash, gold ornaments weighing 182.16 grams, 296 grams of silver, and a scooter, amounting to over Rs 35 lakh in total.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing the burglaries.
“The trio used to roam the city and nearby localities during late-night hours to identify locked houses. They would break open the locks to steal gold, silver, cash, and other valuables,” the SP said.
Police investigations revealed that the accused targeted locked houses and committed theft by breaking the locks. CCTV footage helped the authorities track their movements, leading to their arrest today.
