Bhubaneswar: Twin City Commissionerate Police have arrested three persons in connection with the murder of Amaresh Nayak of Sundarpada on Diwali night.
“Three accused persons have been arrested in connection with Amaresh Nayak murder. They are Sankar Bastia of Harchandi Sahi of Old Town area, Jagadish Gajendra of Kapil Prasad and Jitendra Mallick of Sunderpada,” informed Anup Kumar Sahu, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bhubaneswar addressing a press meet here today.
The DCP said that the arrests were made on the basis of video graphic statements of two eyewitnesses and evidence against them.
He said the eyewitnesses have named 10 persons.
Replying to queries by reporters, Sahu said that the wooden log seized from the spot could be the weapon of murder but added that things would be clear after the post-mortem report was made available and statements were matched with the findings of the post-mortem report.
“As per the statements recorded by us till date, these two groups were having a feast; one person of a group was present at the spot of the feast. An incident had taken place over the bursting of crackers leading to heated arguments. Later the accused persons reached the spot on receiving a phone call. Sankar Bastia had come to the spot, he had a quarrel and during this quarrel others had joined him in the assault resulting in the death,” the DCP revealed.
He added that the groups had past enmity between them.
