Bhubaneswar: The Abhayachandpur police on Sunday arrested three persons and seized over 15.58 grams of brown sugar worth around Rs 4.5 lakh, along with a motorcycle, from Dalimpur Road near Paradip IOCL Road in Jagatsinghpur district.
The accused have been identified as Sangram Dalai of Bagdia village, Bikram Nayak of Siju village, and Deepak Pati of the Tangi area in Khurda district.
Acting on a tip-off, Abhayachandpur police conducted a raid in the Dalimpur area and apprehended the three accused. Among them, Dalai and Pati are repeat offenders with multiple cases previously registered against them at Paradip police station.
“They were bringing brown sugar from the Khurda area and smuggling it to various parts of Paradip,” said Paradip Additional Superintendent of Police Smruti Ranjan Kar while briefing the media.
