Dhenkanal: Three persons were electrocuted and two others critically injured while erecting a tent for ‘Dandayatra’ celebrations at Patala village under Balimi police station limits in Dhenkanal district on Sunday.
According to Hindol Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) S.K. Nanda, three persons died on the spot after coming in contact with an 11 kV overhead electric wire. One injured person is undergoing treatment at Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), while another critically injured person has been referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
According to reports, ‘Dandua’—a group of people who participate in the Dandayatra—had arrived in Patala village to take part in the Dandayatra festivities. During the preparations, five persons were engaged in erecting a tent when three of them accidentally came into contact with a live 11 kV power line, resulting in their instantaneous deaths.
The remaining two persons were rushed to Angul DHH. Later, one of them was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment due to the severity of injuries.
Following the incident, police reached the spot and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the mishap.
