Puri: Additional Director General (ADG) of Police R K Sharma today held a review meeting for smooth and disciplined conduct of Rath Yatra.
“Today we had a detailed review of police arrangements to be made for the smooth and disciplined conduct of Rath Yatra which falls on July 1 and rituals to be conducted up to Niladri Vijay,” informed Sharma speaking to reporters here after the review meeting.
Sharma said that three IGPs–IG (Operations), IG (Headquarters) and IG (Southern Range) will supervise the police arrangements for the smooth conduct of Rath Yatra and the subsequent events up to Niladri Vijay.
“We will ensure that Rath Yatra is held smoothly and peacefully so that devotees can have darshan of Lord Jagannath peacefully as they could in Deva Snana Purnima,” the ADGP said.
He added that there will be police arrangements inside the temple, for crowd management and a special arrangement will be made for the cordon around the chariots and their pulling.
He said that elaborate arrangements will be made for traffic management.
A traffic control room and integrated control room will be set up, he added.
Sharma informed that CCTVs will be installed in Puri town and CCTV feed will be utilised for effective crowd management.

Notably, this year Rath Yatra will be held with the participation of devotees after a hiatus of two years. In the last two years’ the participation of devotees was barred due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
