Puri: Police today arrested three more persons including a couple in the alleged Puri minor gang-rape case.
“Today we are arresting three more accused persons in connection with alleged gang-rape of a minor which was reported at the Kumbharpada police station on December 2 last. They are Ranjit Kumar Parida alias Bapi, his wife (name concealed), and Bulu Barik, the fourth accused named in the FIR,” informed Puri S P, Umashankar Das addressing a presser here this afternoon.
Das stated that a total of six accused persons have been arrested in connection with the aforementioned case.
“We remain committed to our earlier announcement that we will file submit charge sheet with 20 days and will take steps to and measures to give justice to her,” the SP said.
He clarified that so far in the matter of payment of compensation to the victim, efforts are underway to put it up before the District Legal Service Authority (DLSA).
He said the process is underway to get the other three arrested accused on remand for further interrogation.
Main accused Jitendra Sethi, who is a former (dismissed from service) police constable was arrested earlier along with his accomplice Rajesh Sethi and Rama Chandra Pradhan.
The minor was waiting for a bus to her village on the evening of December 2 when Jitendra and three others picked her up offering to drop her home. She was then taken to a residential quarter of Puri Police where Jitendra and Rajesh raped her, while the two others kept watch outside.
