Bhubaneswar: Three persons including a woman and a child were killed in a head-on collision between an ambulance and a motorbike near Neulapur on the National Highway 16 under Dharmashala police limits in Jajpur district today.
The deceased have been identified as Sankar Sahu (50), Mamina Sahu (42) and Sampurna Sahu (5) of Gopal Sahi of Bidanasi area in Cuttack city, police said.
According to reports, Sankar Sahu was riding a motorbike on his way to Panikoili from Cuttack with wife and daughter on pillion when they were hit head-on by an ambulance coming from the opposite direction near Neulapur in the afternoon today.
As road construction was underway vehicles from both directions were moving on one side of the road.
Under the impact of the collision, the three fell from the motorbike and were dead on the spot.
Following the accident, the driver of the ambulance had fled the spot.
Police have seized the bodies and have sent them for post-mortem. Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
