Bhubaneswar: Chandrasekharpur police under Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) have arrested three members of a burglary gang and a receiver on Saturday.
Police have seized 01 kg gold ornaments, 1.3 kg silver ornaments, Rs 3.25 lakh cash, 01 motorcycle, 03 mobile phones and house-breaking implements from their possession.
According to the police, the accused persons have been identified as Subhrakanta Behera alias Kajal (33) of Paradip, Biswajit Das alias Bitu of Mangalpur, Madhusudan Mohanty alias Madhu (34) of Jagatsinghpur, and Sudam Charana Sahoo (receiver and owner of Jagannath Jewellery, Pradip).
Following a report of burglary of gold ornaments from a house at Kanan Vihar on March 30 and burglaries under Nandankanan and Infocity police limits Bhubaneswar UPD police took swift action and successfully cracked the case leading to the aforementioned arrests and seizures.
These gang members are also involved in a series of sensational house dacoity cases in Puri, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Nayagarh and Kendrapara districts.
Police said the gang is notoriously reputed as the “Kajal – Bitu – Madhu “ gang in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Jajpur districts. The gang is also active in Nayagarh, Bhubaneswar, Bhadrak and Puri districts.
The gang has expertise in house dacoity and burglary cases. The gang armed with lethal weapons enter dwelling houses by breaking open the main gate of the house and the inmates are taken hostage. In case of resistance from family members, they also attack severely. In the evening hour or the daytime, the gang members randomly wander in residential areas break open locked houses with iron rods and commit burglary. The gang has local informers to collect data about the target house and also do recce beforehand. They use motorcycles for movement and use mobile phones for communication. They cover their face during the crime they wear full pants and shirts, especially jeans and T-shirts while covering their face.
They dispose of gold and silver ornaments with goldsmiths and share cash among them.
They consume alcohol and ganja at the time of committing the crime. They always enter the target house through the main door after scaling over the boundary wall.
The gang members have several cases of dacoity and burglary against their names at various police stations in the state.
