Baripada: Three women were killed in lightning strikes in two separate incidents in Mayurbhanj district today.
According to reports, Malati Mahanta (55) and Parvati Singh (41) respectively of Bahadurpur and Pandura villages under Shyamakhunta block of Mayurbhanj district had taken their goats to a nearby field for grazing in the afternoon when lightning struck them.
Fellow villagers immediately rushed them to the district headquarters hospital here where attending doctors declared them dead.
In a separate incident, an 18-year-old young woman Ranjita Singh of Deopada village under Baisinga police limits of the district was killed in a lightning strike today.
Ranjita along with her mother and two other women was returning home after working in the field when lightning struck them. While the other three were injured in the lightning strike, Ranjita was injured seriously.
Ranjita was rushed to the Govt Hospital at Baisinga where she was declared dead by the attending doctors.
