Balasore: As many as 30 persons were seriously injured while over 20 others sustained minor injuries as a passenger bus carrying over 70 passengers collided with a stationary coal-laden truck around 1 am at Gudikhal Square under Basta police limits in Balasore.
The bus named Das & Das was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Arambagh in West Bengal when it hit the parked truck (AP 39 TU 5959). Highway patrolling staff and Basta police carried out the rescue operation. They rushed the injured to Bastia hospital and later referred them to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital for further treatment.
The rescue operation involved four 108 ambulances, one highway ambulance, and three private ambulances, along with police personnel.
The parked truck on the highway is suspected to be a factor in the bus accident. However, a police investigation is underway to ascertain the reason behind the accident.
