**Bhubaneswar: ** Despite utmost stress laid on universalization of education from the grassroots level, 30,714 posts of both primary and secondary school teachers are lying vacant across Odisha. This was revealed by the Odisha School and Mass Education Minister in the Assembly during the Question Hour of ongoing Budget Session.
Replying a SAQ asked by MLA Ashwini Kumar Patra, School and Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra apprised the House that 7,324 posts of teachers are lying vacant in the Government High Schools while 23,390 posts are lying vacant in the Government-run primary schools in the State.
The Minister also informed the House that there are total 1,35,656 sanctioned teacher posts statewide at primary level.
“At present, there are 96,997 regular teachers, 78,250 Sikhya Sahayaks (SSs) and Gana Sikhyaks (GSs) while total 1,75,247 teachers are now in service,” the School and Mass Education Minister informed the House.
He also added, “Step has been taken to fill up the vacant 23,390 regular Level-V primary teacher posts by the Sikhya Sahayaks (SSs)/ junior teachers having six years of teaching experience in the Government primary schools. Besides, recruitment of 14,087 required Sikhya Sahayaks (SSs) as per the PTR norms is on.”
Pertaining to the vacant teacher posts in the State Government-run high schools, the Minister informed the Assembly, “Process underway to appoint 2,595 trained graduates as contractual teachers to fill up the 7,324 vacant posts in the Government High Schools in the State after due approval of the Finance Department. Necessary steps being taken to fill up the balance vacancies.”
