31st Konark Festival Inaugurated

Bhubaneswar: The 31st Konark Festival was inaugurated at the Konark Open Air Auditorium today.

The Festival was formally inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by Minister for Tourism, Odia Language, Literature & Culture Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi; Minister of State for Energy, Industry, MSME & Home Capt Dibya Shankar Mishra; Minister For School & Mass Education Samir Ranjan Dash; Minister for Information & Technology, Sports & Youth Services Tushar Kanti Behera; Jagatsinghpur MP Rajashree Mallick; Chairperson of Odisha Tourism Development Corporation Srimayee Mishra; Chairperson Puri Zilla Parishad Jyotirmayee Dalai; Tourism Secretary Vishal Dev among others, said an official press release issued today.

The spectators were made to sit as per Covid guidelines. In addition to that the spectators’ were allowed into the spectators’ gallery after sanitization, the press release added.

On the first day of the five-day extravaganza, Aruna Mohanty and troupe of the Odisha Dance Academy performed Odissi dance, the press release said.

Later, Sheela Unnikrishnan and troupe of Sridevi Nrutyalaya from Chennai enthralled the audience with Bharat Natyam. The programme was conducted by Dr Mrutunjaya Rath and Sanhati Pani, it added.

Before twilight, guests formally inaugurated the 9th International Sand Art Festival on the Chandrabhaga beach, the press release stated.

As many as 70 sand artists are showcasing their art in this including six from outside States, it added.
