Bhubaneswar: During this year, till November 30, total 8,473 cases were registered at different police stations of Bhubaneswar urban police district (UPD). Out of these, 32 were murders, 108 rape cases, 547 snatching incidents, 426 dacoity, 1,880 thefts, and 4,075 other cases, a report shared by the UPD under Commissionerate of Police revealed.
The maximum cases of murder and dacoity (4 each) have been registered in Jatni (police limits) while, no such cases were reported by Lingaraj, Badagada, Balinata, and Nandan Kanan police during the past 11 months. Total 19 rape cases, the maximum, have been registered by Mahila Police (station).
The investigation in 9 murder cases, 77 rape cases, 440 road accidents, 393 snatching cases, 283 robberies, 1,355 thefts and 2,553 other cases, have been completed by the police.
“As many as 532 road accident cases were registered during this year so far in Bhubaneswar. During 2019 total 8,229 cases were registered by Bhubaneswar UPD while 7,674 cases were registered at different police stations of the Capital City in 2020,” the report added.
During this year, a number of police stations have not reported any serious crimes against women. “With effective investigation by Property Offence Prevention and Detection (POPD) and C-60 Teams and local police, the accused were apprehended and stolen items recovered,” Bhubaneswar UPD stated.
The amended Motor Vehicle Act has been implemented strictly following which the traffic violators are facing serious penalty, the police said.
