Bhubaneswar: As many as 35 pilgrims from Odisha’s Balasore sustained injuries as the bus they were travelling in met with an accident near Mathani on the Bihar-Uttar Pradesh border, on Wednesday night. The condition of three of them is stated to be critical.
According to sources, the passengers, residents of Chandaneswar village under Bhograi block in Balasore district, were en route to the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh Mela when their bus met with the mishap at 12.50 am.
It is learnt that the bus driver fell asleep while driving for which the bus crashed into a stationary sand-laden dumper truck from behind,” said a passenger on the bus.
The driver of the ill-fated bus Sriram Ji, responsible for the accident, fled the scene, leaving the passengers stranded.
Meanwhile, three critically injured persons identified as Subhas Behera (42) from Kumar Sarisa village, Bapi Sasmal (35) and Rajakishore Sahu (50) from Naguan village are fighting for their lives in the ICU.
