Bhubaneswar: With floods in Subranarekha river basin imminent, the State Government has dispatched relief and rescue teams to Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts, Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena informed.
Addressing a presser here on Sunday, Jena said that Galudih barrage in Jharkhand is releasing around 6 lakh cusec water through 16 gates. This is very likley to trigger high flood in Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts.
At 9 am today morning, Subarnerekha river was flowing above danger level at Jamsyholaghat at 52.88 metres and rising. Similarly, Baitarani river was flowig above danger level at Anandpur and Akhuapada.
“Continue embankment patrol and ensure availability of adequate flood fighting materials,” SRC instructed the Collecters of the two northern Odisha districts.
Jena has directed the district administration to involve all PRIs, WSHGs and evacuate as many people to safe places from the probable inundation areas.
Meanwhile, the officials in Kendrapara visited embankment, low lying areas of Brahmani, Baitarani, Kharashrota river systems today morning and inspected the preparedness.
