Sundargarh: Bisra police in Sundargarh district on Thursday arrested four persons for allegedly facilitating the delivery of a minor pregnant girl.
The arrested persons have identified as Sanjit Mahato; Sanat Mohanty, pharmacist of Bisra Community Health Centre (CHC); Sanjay Panda, Manager of private nursing home at Rourkela; and Mahabir Mahato, relative of Sanjit Mahato.
Police along with Child Welfare Committee have rescued the newborn baby girl from the residence of a doctor. While the doctor is accused of illegally getting the minor deliver the baby is absconding, police have launched a manhunt to nab him.
According to reports, one Sanjit Mahato of Jaraikela area had impregnated a minor girl. Scared of the matter coming to light Sanjit had contacted Sanat Mohanty, pharmacist of Bisra CHC to get the pregnancy aborted. Sanjit advised Sanat to take the pregnant minor girl to a private nursing home in Rourkela.
Sanat after contacting the manager of the private nursing home Sanjay Panda, got the pregnant minor girl admitted to the nursing home. Later, a doctor of the nursing home got the minor girl deliver a baby girl. The minor girl was told that her pregnancy has been aborted. However, the doctor who conducted the delivery kept the newborn in his home.
On receipt of a complaint, police and Child Welfare Committee rescued the baby girl from the residence of the doctor. Police have launched a manhunt to trace the doctor who is absconding.
Further investigation by the police and the Child Welfare Committee in the matter is underway.
