Sambalpur: Four people were killed after a cattle-laden truck overturned at Katapali Chowk on National Highway No. 53 under Burla police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur on Thursday night.
According to reports, a cattle-laden truck was parked at Katapali Chhak last night and the driver and other staff of the truck were cooking their food in front of the truck. Around 10.45 pm another speeding truck, which was on its way from Bargarh to Sambalpur, hit the parked truck from the rear side and fled the scene. Consequently, the driver of the second truck lost control over the steering, and the cattle-laden truck overturned.
As a result, the vehicle overturned and crushed the driver and other staff who were preparing their meal under it.
On being informed about the incident, local police and Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. By then, three people breathed their last on the spot, while the fourth was rushed to the Burla Hospital in critical condition. The doctors at the hospital, however, pronounced him ‘brought dead’.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
