4-Month-Pregnant Woman Dies Under Mysterious Condition In Bhubaneswar, Family Alleges Dowry Death

**Bhubaneswar**: A 4-month-pregnant woman living near Airfield Police Station here died under mysterious condition on Monday night. According to her family members, she was tortured mentally and physically for dowry since the day she was married. They suspect it to be a dowry death.

26-yr-old Silpi Das had married Subir Jena in December 2017. According to an FIR lodged at the Airfield Police Station by her mother, her daughter was tortured by her husband, mother-in-law Pratima , their landlord Rajnikanta and landlady Anu for dowry for the last eight months.

The parents of the deceased had given Rs 2,00,000 and gold around 120 gms along with household articles. But their demand increased day by day. Moreover, the landlord and the landlady used to castigate aspersions on the girl’s family. The torture had increased so much that the deceased had informed to even commit suicide if it continued, as per the FIR.

The mother has alleged that on Monday night, she got the information about her daughter’s death. When the family rushed to her in-laws place, they were not allowed to enter into the house and were even hurled abuses. They tried to contact the son-in-law, who picked up their call after several attempts only to inform that their daughter was in Shree Hospital.

Meanwhile, the police have started its investigation into the matter.
