**Koraput**: Closely on the heels of the death of Shreyas Kesharwani, a Class XI student who died of internal injuries after alleged ‘ragging’ by his hostel mates, another such incident has cropped up where a Class 1 student was mercilessly beaten by four students of Class IV and V which has landed him to Koraput Sadar Hospital in a serious condition.
This incident occurred in the Mahadeipur Sevashram of Koraput on January 10.
Notably, two students each from Class IV and V had called the victim identified as Saroj Bhoi to an isolated place on pretext of playing but they cornered him and thrashed him mercilessly.
That young boy lost consciousness. Thinking him to be dead, the four accused boys threw him into a nearby drain and fled the spot.
When Saroj did not return the Sevashram hostel, the authorities informed the family members who came the next day. They searched for him frantically, and rescued him in a critical condition from the drain. He was immediately rushed to the hospital.
It is reported that the child has received severe injuries on his face and both his arms are also fractured. As he regained consciousness, he narrated the whole incident naming the accused four.
It is believed that the child had an altercation with one of the four accused students after which they decided to settle scores with him.
Koraput Sadar police had detained the four minor students of Mahadeipur Sevashram and they were sent to the Juvenile Justice Board today.
