4 Youths Arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Mayurbhanj police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) following an incident of goat theft in the Bangiriposi police limits on Saturday. Four youths were arrested in connection with the crime.

The accused have been identified as Suraj Mukhi (28), a resident of Kostha village under Suliapada police limits; Jayant Behera (32), from Bijay Ramchandrapur under Baripada police limits; Dilip Singh (28), from Baripada police station; and Laxman Singh (28), from the Kuliana police limits.

According to reports, the victims, Binoti Patra and Surendra Patra, were grazing their goats in a field at Tila village when the accused youths stole two goats and attempted to flee in a car.

Upon noticing this, the victims raised an alarm. Hearing their cries, a group of local youths gave chase on motorcycles and, with the help of villagers near Kantasola, were able to stop the car.

The four accused were detained by the villagers, and the goats were recovered. The total value of the goats is estimated to be over Rs 35,000, according to Binoti Patra.

Local residents immediately contacted the police via the emergency helpline number ‘112.’ Upon receiving the information, Bangiriposi police arrived at the scene, rescued the four youths from the villagers, and took them into custody for interrogation based on Binoti Patra’s complaint.

This incident is part of a growing trend of livestock theft in the region, with five goats and cows reported stolen in the last two months.
