Bhubaneswar: With heavy rainfall in the upper catchment area of the Mahanadi and an impending medium to large flood, Hirakud dam authorities opened 44 sluice gates to release floodwater.
While there is an inflow of 8,53,029 cusecs of water into the reservoir, the combined outflow through the sluice gates, power channel and other different canals is 6,94,200 cusecs.
Currently, the water level in the reservoir stands at 626.37 feet against a maximum water holding capacity of 630 feet.
Apart from Mahanadi, several other major rivers of Odisha have swollen up after low pressure induced heavy rainfall.
