Bhubaneswar: As many as 47 persons were arrested following a massive drive against betting rackets operating in Bargarh district on Wednesday. Around Rs 94,000 in cash, 40 gambling charts, 52 betting chits, 20 mobile phones, five calculators, and 28 ‘Satta’ books were seized during the raids across the western Odisha district today.
According to reports, SP Prahlad Meena ordered the drive against illegal betting rackets operating in the distrit following which raids were carried out on infamous gambling dens. All the accused have been booked by the police and forwarded to the court today, the police informed.
The maximum number of cases (8) were registered by Town police followed by Attabira (6), Sadar (5), Rural police (3), Barpali (3), Paikamal (2), Bijepur (2), and one each by Jharbandh, Padampur, Bhatli and Melchamunda police.
