47-Year-Old Worker Dies As Soil Caves In At Laterite Quarry In Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: A 47-year-old labourer was killed on Monday after soil caved in on him inside a laterite stone quarry near Indupur village under Sadar police limits in Odapada tahsil of Dhenkanal district.

The deceased has been identified as Akshay Nayak of Besalia village.

According to reports, Nayak had gone to work at the Gundapashi quarry in the morning, as per his daily routine. While he was working, a section of soil in the quarry caved in, burying him under the debris.

An earth moving machine was used to pull him out, but he was declared dead at the site. On being informed, Sub-Inspector Kumud Chandra Biswal of Sadar police station reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem.

Police have also seized the earth moving machine involved in the rescue.
