Bhubaneswar: At least 4,757 minor children went missing in 2022 in Odisha, out of which 4,250 were girls. According to a Minister of State (Home), so far, 2,728 of these missing children have been rescued.
The number of missing minor girls shot up sharply in 2022 to 4,250. In the past, from 2018 to 2021, the number was 2,053, 2,593, 2,558, and 2,452.
Behera responded in form of a written response, to a question on missing children and missing women in Odisha, raised by Khandapada MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik in the Odisha Assembly today.
The Minister said that information on the rate of conviction of human traffickers in Odisha is being collected. Out of th 507 missing boys, in 2022, 342 have been rescued, the written response noted.
Similarly, there has been a rise in the number of women who went missing in the State. This number during 2022 was 9,820, while the number of women rescued was 3,476.
From 2018 to 2021, 8053, 9687, 8970 and 7316 women went missing (year-wise) out of which 4,203, 4,796, 3,670 and 1,454 women were rescued respectively.
