Bhubaneswar: One person was killed and at least ten people were injured as the bus carrying them met with an accident near Kuhudi Chhak on National Highway 16 near Khurda.

The bus was ferrying about 40 Odia migrants to Banki who had been stuck in Hyderabad, Telangana amid COVID-19 lockdown. The driver, for causes unknown yet, rammed into a truck and went off-road.

The bus’s second driver has reportedly passed away. He is yet to be identified. Upon intimation, Tangi Fire Services rushed to the spot and rescued the injured. They were immediately shifted to Tangi hospital.

The district collector informed that once the treatment is done, the migrants would be shifted by another bus to their hometowns.

Notably, this is the fourth accident of buses carrying Odia migrants stuck in other states. Two people were killed and several were injured when the bus they were travelling in overturned in Kalinga Ghat in Kandhamal-Ganjam border. Within 24 hours, two more unfortunate accidents occurred. The first on Nagpur-Amaravati NH in Maharasthra where five people had minor injuries and the next again at Kalinga Ghat where the bus hit a truck and veered off road.
