Bhubaneswar: A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the Bay of Bengal near Puri in Odisha at 6:10 am on Tuesday, with its epicentre located at latitude 19.52°N and longitude 88.55°E. The quake occurred at a depth of 91 km, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
Mild tremors were felt in parts of Odisha, particularly in the coastal regions. Fortunately, no immediate reports of damage or casualties have surfaced.
An Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) official confirmed it. According to the official, the quake occurred at a depth of 91 km in the Bay of Bengal.
According to data from the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the quake’s epicentre was situated approximately 286 kilometres east of Puri and 297 kilometres east-southeast of Bhubaneswar. The earthquake’s impact was relatively mild, as its epicentre was located in the Bay of Bengal.
