5 Children Fall Sick After Consuming Fertiliser Mistaking It To Be Salt

Deogarh: Five children aged between 5 and 10 years fell seriously ill and were hospitalised after they consumed fertilizer mistaking it to be salt. The incident occurred in Saruali village under Barkote police limits Odisha’s Deogarh district on Sunday.

According to reports, the children were playing in their village in the afternoon when someone got some lemons from a villager’s garden. They cut the lemons and had it with fertilizer mistaking it for salt.

One child went to his house for salt and thought he found it in a bag kept in the open. Actually, it was a bag containing potash. Subsequently, the child took a handful of potash and gave it to his friends.

No sooner the children consumed the potash with lemon they fell sick and were rushed to a heathcare centre at Pal Lahara in Angul district.

The children are said to be out of danger after preliminary treatment.
