Bhubaneswar: Five people were killed when the Mumbai-bound Konark Express ran over them near Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district on Monday. The mishap occured when a few passengers of Coimbatore-Silcher Express pulled the chain of the train, disembarked and were attempting to cross over the lines.
East Coast Railway stated, “Few people travelling in train Coimbatore-Silcher Express got down after pulling chain in mid-section of Visakhapatnam-Palasa main line between Sigadam and Chipurupalli Stations. They tried to run on to the other side track and came under Bhubaneswar-CST Mumbai Konark express which was going towards Mumbai.”
Five people were runover by the train on the spot. One injured was carried in the same train to Srikakulam Road Station and an ambulance was arranged by the railway authorities to shift to hospital. “Accident Relief Medical Train ordered from Visakhapatnam to spot. DRM, ADRM (op) and other officials monitoring the situation. More information on this mishap will be released soon,” the ECoR stated.
