Mayurbhanj/Angul: As many as five persons were killed and over 25 people were injured in separate road mishaps across the State on Thursday night and Friday morning.
Four persons were killed and 10 were critically injured in a collision on NH-18 between a truck carrying iron rods and a bus near Agaria bridge under Baisinga Police limits in Baripada late night on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Anindya Siddharth, Satya Ranjan Patra, Samaray Hembrom and Sukanti Soren.
On intimation, cops and fire services personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the trapped passengers. All injured persons were admitted to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Hospital for treatment.
While cops have seized the truck, the driver and helper of the vehicle are reportedly absconding.
In another mishap, one Basudev Lenka was returning home from Transport Office in Betnoti at around 11 pm on Thursday night when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle and was critically injured. By the time he was rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors declared him dead.
In Angul, over 20 passengers sustained injuries after the bus they were travelling in lost balance and skidded off road near Banarpal in the wee hours of Friday. The injured are undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
