Angul: Five of a family including a minor was critically injured on Wednesday after a domestic LPG cylinder caught fire and burst at Talamula village under Banarpal police limits of Angul district.
While all five were initially admitted to the district headquarter hospital here, three of them have been shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital at Cuttack after their health condition deteriorated.
The injured persons are Sumitra Sahu, Sarbeswar Sahu, Ranjit Sahu, Babula Sahu and Tapaswini Sahu.
According to reports, around noon while cooking in the kitchen Sarbeswar Sahu and his son noticed gas leaking from the LPG cylinder and tried to throw it out. However, the cylinder which had caught fire burst inside the house. While Sarbeswar and his son shouted for help, other members of the family rushed to save them and came under the grip of the fire and sustained burns.
Neighbours rushed the five to the district headquarter hospital here.
Three out of them had 40 percent burns and have been shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital at Cuttack for advanced treatment.
Banarpal police have launched an investigation into the matter.
