**Bhubaneswar:** With an exhausting summer and scorching heat, everyone is curious about how they can protect themselves from unexpected negative consequences like sunstroke. Here we have a set of advices to avoid heatstroke while enjoying the summer.
1: Try to expose yourself less to heat and sun.
In a heat wave-like situation, avoid going out during the hottest hours of the day. In the time when the temperature is at peak, especially between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., avoid all kinds of outdoor activities unless there is something really urgent.
2: Keep yourself hydrated.
Drink at least two litres of water every day. Water or fruit juices will keep you hydrated in the summer while alcohol and beverages containing caffeine can be dangerous as they increase the risk of dehydration.
3: Dress-up according to the season
Sometimes comfort is more important that aesthetics. Pale-coloured, lightweight clothing (for example, made of cotton or linen) may not look veru fashionable but it keeps your body cool. To protect your head, use a hat or a cap.
4: Avoid excessive physical work
Avoid intense work out or exercise when temperatures are too high. Also, control your physical exertion during the hottest hours. If the work is unavoidable, first drink lots of water to prevent dehydration.
5: Be extra careful with Children and seniors
It is difficult for Children and seniors to regulate their body temperature. Any exterior increase in temperature can be a real threat to them. They are more prone to heatstroke since their bodies do not manage temperature variations as effectively. Give them something to drink often and keep them in a cool place.
