Bhubaneswar: In a bloodcurdling incident, a five-year-old boy was on Thursday allegedly bludgeoned to death with a stone by a man in front of his father at Mendra village under Dabugan police limits in Nabarangpur district.
The accused after crushing the child’s head with a stone severed his right hand and left leg. He left the scene for his home carrying the limbs with him.
The deceased has been identified as Chandan Pujari, son of Sanadhar Pujari, priest of Saradheswar Shiva temple of Mendra village.
Police have arrested the accused identified as Jala Santa (23).
The police have also seized the body of the deceased child. The reason behind the brutal murder remains a mystery.
According to reports, the deceased child — Chandan’s father Sanadhar Pujari like any other day in the morning had left his home to perform puja at the Saradheswar Shiva temple atop a hillock on the outskirts of the village.
Sanadhar was accompanied by two other villagers to the temple. As Chandan persisted to visit the temple his grandfather Haridas took him to the temple at around 9.00 AM.
While Sanadhar was busy performing puja inside the temple, Chandan was playing in front to the temple.
Suddenly, accused Jala smashed Chandan’s head with a stone, killing the child instantaneously. Next he brutally severed the child’s his right hand and left leg.
Watching his son’s brutal killing in front of his eyes Sanadhar fell unconscious. On gaining consciousness Sanadhar screamed on seeing his son’s body lying in a pool of blood.
Hearing Sanadhar’s scream villagers gathered near the temple and informed the police about the spine chilling brutal murder.
Dabugam police rushed to the spot, seized the body and arrested the accused.
However, the reason behind the gruesome muder is not known.
