Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police has made an elaborate bandobast for the smooth and peaceful celebration of Durga Puja in the Millennium City.
“55 platoons of force, 6 police officers of ADCP rank, 40 officers of DSP rank, around 55 Inspectors, nearly 300 SI and ASI, 84 Havildar, over 600 Constables and Traffic Constables, 700 home guards and more than 700 police volunteers will be deployed during the Durga Puja celebrations in the city,” informed Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi addressing a presser on police preparations for Durga Puja celebrations here today.
The Commissionerate Police is committed and ready to face the challenge of the excitement of the people to celebrate Durga Puja, stated Priyadarshi.
“People who come to visit the pandals during Puja can be termed as ‘friendly crowd’ but there can be exceptions too like drunkards creating scenes. Therefore, our directive to the police personnel is to behave well and be cordial. But if any drunk person openly violates the law, creates a disturbance, the police will not hesitate to take appropriate action in accordance with the law,” he added.
The Police Commissioner told that 20 PCR vans, 3 special mobile vans, 40 bike PCRs and quick action teams will be deployed in the city during Durga Puja.
Apart from the deployment of security personnel on rooftops, 300 CCTV cameras, 31 aid posts for Dussehra and 14 aid posts for the immersion ceremony will also be put in place, he added.
Policemen will be posted at each and every marquee, mosque and church. The city has been divided into 8 parts for security and surveillance purposes. One police officer will be in charge of one part.
The Commissionerate Police has allowed the conduct of cultural programmes maximum up to midnight.
