Paikmal (Bargarh): In a major crackdown on illegal drug trade, Paikmal police on Friday seized 550 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup containing Codeine Phosphate and Triprolidine Hydrochloride during a raid in Sodha village of Bargarh district. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.
The accused, identified as Dinesh Behera (37) was found in possession of the contraband.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Sub-Inspector Kailash Chandra Pradhan, Officer-in-Charge of Paikmal Police Station, raided Behera’s residence. The team discovered the bottles hidden in two plastic bags under a staircase.
In addition to the cough syrup bottles, police also seized a mobile phone, a SIM card, and ₹2,250 in cash.
A case has been registered under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act and Section 111(2)(b) of the BNS at Paikmal Police Station in this connection.
Behera has a criminal record with involvement in multiple cases. Police said investigations are underway to identify the source of the contraband and uncover any larger network engaged in the illegal trade.
