5,950 Beggars In Odisha, Says Minister Ashok Panda
Bhubaneswar: A total of 5,950 beggars have been identified in the State informed Minister of State for Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disability Ashok Chandra Panda in the Odisha Assembly today.
The Minister shared the information in a written reply to a question by BJD member Souvik Biswal.
According to data released by the Minister, the maximum number of beggars totaling 1,060 have been identified in Cuttack district, followed by Ganjam 545, Mayurbhanj 485 and Sundargarh 423, Puri 366, Bolangir 344, Boudh 6, Deogarh district is at the bottom of the list with only 3 beggars.
Panda said that the State government has implemented a special programme “Sahaya” for rehabilitation of beggars.
He has added that in the current year while provisions have been made for establishment of five rehabilitation centres for beggars in Puri, one such centre will be established in Bhubaneswar.
