Bhubaneswar: At least six persons from Badakhani village under Mohana police station in Gajapati district fell seriously ill after consuming wild poisonous mushrooms on the night of Friday.
The affected persons—Sati Mallick, Biswal Mallick, Sunaram Mallick, Babula Mallick, Kora Mallick, and Badi Mallick—are all residents of Badakhani village.
According to reports, they had ventured into a nearby forest, where they collected wild mushrooms.
After cooking and consuming them in the afternoon, they returned home in the evening and began experiencing severe symptoms, including vomiting, dizziness, stomach aches, and other complications.
Alarmed by their condition, family members, with the assistance of villagers, rushed them to the Mohana community health centre (CHC) for immediate medical attention.
However, as their health continued to deteriorate, five of the patients—Sati Mallick, Biswal Mallick, Sunaram Mallick, Babula Mallick, and Badi Mallick—were referred to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for further treatment.
Dr. Jitendra Prasad Dash of Mohana CHC provided details of the incident, stating, “Initially, four persons arrived at the CHC. One was stable, while the remaining three were in serious condition. After administering primary treatment, we observed a worsening of their health and promptly referred them to the MKCG hospital. Additionally, two more persons arrived later, claiming they too had eaten the wild mushrooms and were experiencing similar symptoms. We are now referring five people to MKCG, with one patient kept under observation here.”
