Bhubaneswar: Six people were injured on Saturday after an IndiaOne Air aircraft operating on the Bhubaneswar–Rourkela route crashed near Jalda in the Raghunathpali block of Rourkela in Sundargarh district.
The aircraft, a Caravan 208 bearing registration number VT-KSS, departed from Bhubaneswar at 12.27 pm with two pilots and four passengers on board.
According to the Directorate of Civil Aviation, the aircraft was 8 nautical miles short of reaching Rourkela when it made a forced landing near Jalda. The timely actions of the pilots helped prevent any loss of life.
Upon receiving information, the district administration rushed to the spot and shifted the injured pilots and passengers to medical facilities in Rourkela. Three passengers are undergoing treatment at J.P. Hospital, while two pilots and one passenger have been admitted to Rourkela Government Hospital. Officials said all the injured are stable and under medical observation. No fatalities were reported.
The incident has been reported to the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and other concerned authorities. As per aviation regulations, the airline will submit a detailed report to the DGCA and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) for further investigation.
The Directorate of Civil Aviation under the Commerce and Transport Department is closely monitoring the situation and is extending all necessary support to the passengers through the district administration.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed the situation and directed officials to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured.
“I am deeply saddened to learn about the plane crash in Rourkela. It is reassuring that all passengers are safe. I am personally monitoring the situation and pray for their speedy recovery,” the Chief Minister said.
Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena is also monitoring the situation. The airline is expected to issue a separate statement on the incident.
