Mayurbhanj/ Kalahandi: At least 60 people were injured, seven of them sustaining severe injuries, in two separate road accidents in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj and Kalahandi districts on Wednesday.
In the first road mishap, 20 labourers were injured, seven critically, when a tyre of a pick-up van they were travelling by burst and the vehicle crashed against a roadside tree. The accident occurred around 4.00 am today near Judamba Ghati on Anandpur road, about 2 km from Thakurmunda block in Mayurbhanj district.
According to reports, the pick-up van was carrying 30 labourers from Jadipada village of Thakurmunda block who were going to the Banta area of the Bhadrak district.
On being informed, Thakurmunda Fire Services and police personnel reached the accident spot and rescued the victims. Four critical patients were shifted to Anandpur, while three others were shifted to Karanjia Medical Center.
In the second incident, an OSRTC bus on its way to Bhavanipatna from Visakhapatna met with an accident at Sunki Ghati. Forty passengers of the bus were injured in the accident. Detailed reports are awaited.
