Bhubaneswar: The presence of bird flu has been confirmed in Delanga, Puri district, after laboratory tests detected the H5N1 avian influenza virus. Authorities have confirmed the outbreak and are taking measures to contain the spread of the virus.

According to reports, the epicentre of the outbreak has been identified as Bada Ankula village in Delanga. To contain the spread of the virus, bird culling will be carried out within a 1-kilometre radius of the epicentre. Additionally, a 10-kilometre radius will be under surveillance from the culling centre.

As a precautionary measure, all poultry shops within 10 kilometres of the affected area will be closed. The authorities are taking these steps to prevent further spread of the virus and contain the outbreak.

Around 6,000 birds are slated for culling today as part of the measures to contain the bird flu outbreak in the area.

According to reports, poultry deaths were first observed over two weeks ago, but residents were initially unaware of the cause or potential risks. It was only after the residents became aware of the possible reason for the deaths that they alerted the animal husbandry department. Blood samples were collected on July 9, and the presence of bird flu was confirmed on Friday night, prompting immediate action to contain the outbreak.
