Cuttack:   Odisha Police DG Abhay today offered homage to the martyred police personnel on the occasion of 61st Police Commemoration Day observed at the State Police Headquarters here. The DGP also conveyed deep condolences to the bereft family members of the martyred jawans.

Along with a two-minute silent prayer, the police personnel also offered ‘Shokashastra’ and ‘Salamishastra’ (salute & condolences) to the martyrs.

Notably, the Police Commemoration Day is being observed nationwide on this day (October 21) since 1959 to mark the martyrdom of 10 CRPF Jawans who sacrificed their lives in Ladakh for the sake of our motherland after fighting bravely with the Chinese soldiers then.

Till date, over 35000 police personnel have laid down their lives while protecting our nation’s sovereignty and integrity, official sources said.
