Bhubaneswar: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat today addressed the 62 Senior Police Officers’ Conference being held and hosted by Odisha Police since yesterday.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay tweeted, “We feel privileged that Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, addressed the 62 Senior Police Officers Conf of Odisha Police a few minutes ago. Gen Rawat appreciated counter LWE work of Odisha Police.”
The CDS also talked on the national security and Odisha’s security environment, the DGP informed.
General Rawat in his speech said, “Odisha Police has earned very high standards of law and order in the State, a very low crime rate and have succeeded in tackling the challenges of LWE with good results in close coordination with all other Central Armed Police forces operating in the region.”
Explaining on the rapid change in geo-strategic environment, General Rawat stated that the fallout of events such as climate change, de-globalization, regionalization, popular protests, trade wars and such other developments have raised the risks of destabilization and disruptions. Also asymmetric warfare has brought in greater challenges, he added.
In this background, he viewed the role of police in ensuring internal stability as critical and expressed that the deliberations in the 62nd conference would help the police leaders to look to the future as guardians of internal security in order to face the challenges ahead.
General Rawat concluded with a hope that Odisha Police will continue to be the pillar of strength, security and confidence for all the people of Odisha, a press note of Odisha Police stated.
Notably, Odisha Police has been substantially successful in its anti-naxal operations as most of the left wing extremism (LWE)-affected districts in the State have been freed from the Maoist menace.
Most significantly, Malkangiri district’s Maoist-infested Swabhiman Anchal has already been reclaimed by the security forces for pacing up developmental activities.
