Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced that it will set up 6,264 new Anganwadi centers to boost early childhood development, Women and Child Development Minister Pravati Parida informed the state assembly on Saturday.
Responding to a question by Champua (Keonjhar) MLA Sanatan Mahakud, Minister Parida said that the rising population in the state has led to an increased demand for Anganwadi centers.
“Proposals for new centers have been received from various districts and thoroughly reviewed before forwarding them to the central government for approval,” she said.
However, the minister noted that, in line with the central government’s directive to upgrade all Mini Anganwadi Centers (AWCs) into full-fledged centers, the proposals have been sent back to the districts for reconsideration. Once revised, they will be resubmitted to the Centre for final approval.
